AM I A GOOD CANDIDATE FOR LASIK?

The best way for you to determine this is with a thorough exam from your eye doctor. Appropriate candidates must be at least 18 years old, in good general health, and have good eye health with no diseases such as cataracts or glaucoma. Laser vision correction can treat a very broad range of nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism.

I’VE HEARD A LOT OF GREAT THINGS ABOUT LASIK. WHAT CAN LASIK DO FOR ME?

Laser vision correction has proven overwhelmingly successful in reducing dependence on glasses and contact lenses; however, the degree of improvement may vary among individuals. How well and how quickly your vision improves depends on how well you heal and the severity of your prescription. Most laser patients with mild to moderate prescriptions do achieve 20/20 vision or are within 1 to 2 lines of 20/20 vision on an eye chart. This means they no longer need glasses or contacts to drive, play sports, or watch movies and TV.

I HAVE HEARD ABOUT CUSTOM LASIK. WHAT IS THIS PROCEDURE?

Custom LASIK is a procedure that involves the use of a wavefront analyzer and enables your surgeon to customize the Conventional LASIK procedure to your individual eyes. This customized procedure can result in patients seeing clearer and sharper than ever before.

WHAT ARE THE RISKS?

There are risks with the laser vision correction procedure. However, the chance of having a vision-reducing complication has been documented in a number of clinical studies to be minimal.

WHAT WILL MY RECOVERY BE LIKE?

PRK

PRK is a vision correction procedure that alters the shape of the cornea to change how light enters through the eye. By changing the cornea’s shape, PRK can fix nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism.

PRK is similar to Lasik in many ways, and produces similar outcomes. PRK is FDA-approved and is a safe and stable procedure for qualified patients. PRK and LASIK are both considered “laser vision correction surgery,” but each is a little different when it comes to advantages and disadvantages.

ICL

The advantage of the Visian Implantable Collamer Lens (ICL is that it can permanently correct your vision, yet no natural tissue is removed in any way during the procedure. If, for the unlikely reason you need or wish to remove your Visian ICLs in the future, your doctor can accommodate you.

Visian ICL has been approved in Europe since 1997 and in the U.S. since 2005. In that time, over 700,000 eyes have been implanted with Visian ICLs by certified, specialized surgeons with a study showing a 99% patient satisfaction rate.

This procedure takes 20-30 minutes or less and has a fast recovery time. Most people are able to resume daily activities in just a few short days with clearer vision.
