Basil Mathews, M.D.

Meet Dr. Basil Mathews

Dr. Basil Mathews is a board-certified ophthalmologist and glaucoma specialist who has called Oklahoma City home since moving there during early childhood. He earned a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Biology and a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Foreign Language-Spanish, graduating summa cum laude from Virginia Commonwealth University with University Honors. He then pursued his medical degree (M.D.) at the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine.

Dr. Mathews completed his ophthalmology residency at the University of North Carolina’s Kittner Eye Center and went on to complete a prestigious glaucoma fellowship at the Duke University Eye Center, where he learned from eight renowned glaucoma specialists.

In his free time, Dr. Mathews enjoys spending quality moments with his wife and family, exercising, hiking, cooking and barbecuing, reading, and traveling

Specialties & Expertise

His expertise lies in employing advanced imaging techniques for the early detection of glaucoma and utilizing evidence-based medicine to provide precise and effective treatments.

He performs cataract surgery (including premium upgrades) in addition to full scope glaucoma interventional management varying from laser procedures in the office to minimally invasive glaucoma surgery and filtering procedures in patients with more advanced disease.

He is committed to delivering comprehensive eye care that prioritizes quality, efficiency, and individual patient consideration.
