Meet Dr. Basil Mathews
Dr. Basil Mathews is a board-certified ophthalmologist and glaucoma specialist who has called Oklahoma City home since moving there during elementary school. He earned a bachelor of science in biology and a bachelor of arts in Spanish, graduating summa cum laude from Virginia Commonwealth University. He then pursued his medical degree at the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine.
Dr. Mathews completed his ophthalmology residency at the University of North Carolina's Kittner Eye Center and went on to complete a prestigious glaucoma fellowship at the Duke University Eye Center, where he learned from eight renowned glaucoma specialists. His expertise lies in employing advanced imaging techniques for the early detection of glaucoma and utilizing evidence-based medicine to provide precise treatments. He is committed to delivering comprehensive eye care that prioritizes quality, efficiency, and individual patient consideration.
In his free time, Dr. Mathews enjoys spending quality moments with his wife and family, exercising, hiking, cooking and barbecuing, reading, and traveling.
