Dr. Basil Mathews is a board-certified ophthalmologist and glaucoma specialist. He was born in Dallas, Texas but moved to Oklahoma City during elementary school and has since called this home.

He attended Virginia Commonwealth University, where he graduated summa cum laude and obtained a B.S. in biology and a B.A. in Spanish. He returned to the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine to obtain his medical degree.

His Ophthalmology training includes a residency at the University of North Carolina Kittner Eye Center and a prestigious glaucoma fellowship at the Duke University Eye Center under the tutelage of 8 renowned glaucoma specialists.

Dr. Mathews specializes in using advanced imaging modalities for early detection of glaucoma and evidenced-based medicine for more precise treatment of glaucoma. He provides comprehensive eye care that emphasizes quality, efficiency and consideration to each patient.

In his spare time, he enjoys spending time with his wife and family, exercising, hiking, cooking/barbecuing, reading a good book and traveling. Dr. Mathews is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, American Glaucoma Society, Chandler Grant Society, and American Medical Association.
