How Will My Glaucoma Be Treated?
There is no cure for glaucoma. Vision lost to glaucoma cannot be restored. Early detection, through regular and comprehensive eye exams, is the key to protecting your vision from the effects of glaucoma, especially if you have a positive family history or other risk factors.
The Doctor will treat your glaucoma based on a variety of complex variables. Dr. Nguyen will use state of the art test to determine the best treatment option for your eyes.
Regular glaucoma check-ups may include two routine eye tests: tonometry and ophthalmoscopy.
The tonometry test measures the inner pressure of the eye. The doctor or technician will use a special device, called a tonometer, to measure the eye’s pressure.
Ophthalmoscopy examines the health of the inside of the eye, especially the optic nerve. Dilating drops will be instilled to allow the doctor a larger view of the inside of your eye.The drops will take 20-30 minutes to fully take effect. If the pressure in the eye is not in the normal range or if the optic nerve looks unusual, then one or more special tests may be recommended.
After the various test, Dr. Nguyen will prescribe glaucoma treatment which may include:
- Medicated eye drops
- Laser procedures
- Glaucoma surgical procedures
- Or a combination of treatment.
